Summon - Gamified SaaS

Design Operations, Live Ops, UI/UX Design
Project Brief

Summon was Game7's community engagement vendor before becoming our acquired product. I served dual roles: first as stakeholder representing our 200K+ community's needs, then as design lead overseeing the product team post-acquisition. The platform evolved from solving Game7's internal engagement challenges to serving external clients including zkSync and dozens of Web3 game studios.

Project Overview

Summon started as Game7's community engagement vendor and became the in-house user acquisition engine after acquiring the product and team 6 months into the relationship. The platform guided gamers through daily quests, leveling systems, and reward mechanics—serving as the primary audience layer for the entire ecosystem.

My role evolved from external stakeholder advocating for our 200K+ community's needs to internal design lead overseeing product design for both Game7's operations and external clients.

Leading design ops with one-third of the design team, the focus shifted from basic functionality to building an immersive gamified experience. Transformed the UI with dynamic animations, engaging quest flows, and reward mechanics that integrated with airdrop distribution, staking functionality, and avatar systems. This wasn't traditional product design—it was Live Ops, providing ongoing design oversight to Summon's product team while ensuring quality for both internal operations and external business development.

The platform needed to serve dual purposes: drive Game7's growth from 4K to 250K monthly active users while becoming a white-labeled tool for external clients like zkSync and dozens of Web3 game studios. Post-acquisition, responsibilities expanded to recruiting UI/UX designers and researchers, conducting culture-fit interviews for engineers, and supporting design implementations for external vendors. The challenge was maintaining Game7's quality standards while building a scalable, flexible platform that worked across diverse Web3 gaming communities.

Our Approach

Our Approach

Our Approach

Represented Game7's community needs during Summon's development as an external vendor. Pushed for features that solved actual engagement problems rather than checking Web3 feature boxes. Validated designs against our community's behavior patterns and provided direct feedback loops between our moderation team and Summon's product development.

Design Oversight (Post-Acquisition): Transitioned to Live Ops role, providing ongoing design direction to Summon's product team. This wasn't about designing every screen—it was about maintaining design quality, ensuring consistency, and making strategic calls on feature prioritization. Reviewed UI/UX work, approved design direction, and kept the product aligned with both Game7's brand and external client needs.

Team Building & Culture: Recruited UI/UX designers and UX researchers to strengthen Summon's design capabilities. Conducted culture-fit interviews for engineers and product staff, ensuring new hires understood both Web3 gaming communities and enterprise SaaS expectations. Built a team that could move fast without breaking the product.

External Client Support: Supported design efforts for major partnerships including zkSync and dozens of game studios integrating Summon into their ecosystems. Ensured white-labeled implementations maintained quality while adapting to each studio's brand requirements. Turned Summon from Game7's internal tool into a revenue-generating business development asset.

"UI is clean, drops are fun, takes 2 seconds to figure out. just do quests and claim loot. not rocket science which is nice for once"
